On this day, July 4, on a day when the United States remembers its independence, we hear much talk about the nation's founding. Even though, as every credible historian notes, America was not established as a Christian nation but rather on the principles of the secular European Enlightement, it remains that, for the time being, people in the U.S. are freely, mostly, to be whom they want to be.
That's what the Founders wanted, and that is that for which we ought to strive. We may not like each other, we may not agree with each other, and we may not want to live next door to each other, but we can at least come together on this much: God made all of us, every one of us, to be special, gifted, and unique. None of us has to be like anyone else.
And the minute we forget this, we've lost it all.
Enjoy your day.
